Weekly Update 32 17.5.24

17 May 2024 (by admin)

Dear Fairfields Community,

We have had another wonderful week with the children in school, who are continuing to work hard. This is especially hard when the warmer weather and lighter evening are with us, and the children are generally more tired as it approaching the end of the half term. We are very proud of year 6 who have been so focused all week with their SATs tests. They were amazing! Thank you for continuing to support us as a school community with your child’s learning too.

Respect Week

The children worked really hard last week to collect additional ‘respect points’ to help their house team totals. It was a close race but the unicorns won and gained 1000 extra points for their teams, which will be counted fully next week for the end of term non uniform day. Good luck to all the teams and keep working hard to collect those points next week!

Walk to School Week

Walk to School Week will be starting on Monday 20th May until Friday 24th May. This is an opportunity for you and your family to "STOP, LISTEN, LOOK and THINK". A chance for you and the family to walk to school and point out some of the potential hazards on the way, discuss the green cross code and suggest safe places to cross roads. You can even join in if you drive to school by parking a little further away and walking the rest of the journey or going for a walk after school! Please do get involved and give your child the chance to earn a certificate for their hard work on keeping safe!

In addition to this, we will also be launching a competition with the children. The competition will be to come up with a catchy slogan to prevent members of the public from parking on our schools yellow zig zag lines. The winning slogan will then be printed on a banner for the school to display outside by the road for all to see. It is very important that we keep our school safe, inside and outside. The yellow zig zag lines give the children a safe place to stop and cross without cars blocking their view. Children are not as tall as adults and will find crossing around cars difficult due to their height. Please help us keep the school community safe by keeping this area clear.

Special Educational Needs Survey

Please could you take the time to complete the below survey if your child has any special educational needs as this survey will help guide Hampshire County Council develop plans for the year ahead to support children and schools.

Many thanks, Miss Moore

Maths Booster Groups Year 6

Having completed my booster group sessions for maths in year 6, prizes have been awarded for the amount of additional work done. Chandvi came 1st, Ameer 2nd, Elif 3rd, Maxine 4th and Berin 5th. These children all did at least 8 additional hours of maths work at home over the four weeks of the Mathletics project! All of the children in the booster groups contributed well and I hope our work helped them with the tests this week.

Miss Warwick

New Maths Booster Group Year 5

I (Miss Warwick) now am going to work with some children in year 5 to help boost their confidence in maths. These children will do a weekly lesson with me (mostly on Friday mornings) and will each receive a Mathletics log-in to use in school and at home. I have contacted the parents of these children by email.

If you are reading this, haven't been contacted and would like your child to have one of the remaining log-ins, please send an email into school to be directed to me and I will organise this on a first come, first served basis. This would be for children willing to undertake some extra maths work at home this term. These children will not do weekly lessons with me but I will assign them tasks and track their progress.

TTRockstars

Next week, it is the turn of year 4 to compete in the Top of the Rocks challenge in times tables against St John's School. There was no event this week.

Football Club

Updates from year groups

FS

Oink...quack...moo! Can you guess our new topic? We all had a fantastic adventure to Finkley Down Farm on Monday. We brushed a Shetland pony, stroked some rabbits, watched a goat race (Silly Billy was the winner), visited the reptile house to see some monitor lizards and pythons and we were able to feed the llamas, goats and sheep too! They were very hungry! We have started to look more closely at the different animals on the farm in the classroom too to learn more about each one! Well done for a brilliant week, Foundation Stage! Please remember to wear your PE Kit to school on Monday. Have a lovely weekend!

Year 1

The children were shocked to see their classrooms transformed back to Victorian Times on Monday. They were amazing and worked so hard writing with chalk on chalkboards, standing up to talk and copying the alphabet! Think everyone is glad to be back to the present day.

Year 2

Well done year 2 on another busy week in school. We have enjoyed editing images by changing their colours and adding effects. We have also recapped the difference between physical and human geographical features. Enjoy the weekend!

Year 3

Year 3 have had a great week this week with lots of exciting things happening. They started the week with an amazing opening Olympic ceremony and were fantastic in their assembly and we are so proud of them. They have finished their week with their final swimming lesson and have all become water confident! Just a reminder to return any completed trip letters to us as soon as possible. Go year 3!

Year 4

Year 4 have enjoyed looking at databases this week and creating their own interactive branching databases online. They have also enjoyed making circuits in sciences.

The residential is coming up soon. Next week on Tuesday 21st, we are holding a zoom meeting to talk about the itinerary, what to bring and answer any questions you may have. We will send out the zoom code on Monday.

There have been some talk amongst the children and they are saying they are not now going. You must speak to the school and not just withdraw your child as you have returned the slips and paid the deposit which could make you liable for paying for the entire trip cost.

If you have been receiving emails from the school about it, we are assuming you are going.

Year 5

This week in Year 5 we have enjoyed writing our persuasive letter in the role of Henry VIII. In cricket we learnt the skill of bowling, we had to make a star shape with our bodies and we learnt how to grip the ball properly. We are looking forward to seeing parents/carers on Tuesday, 21st May from 2.45 to 3pm for our work presentation.

Year 6

Congratulations to Year 6 pupils who have completed their SATs exams this week - we are very proud of them all! Now we start to focus again on writing and science skills, as well as other foundation subjects within lessons. We have sent home an email regarding our sex and relationships (SRE) education plan, plus further dates for your diary about the end of year events. We will be taking pupils to the cinema to see the new release called 'IF' (U) on Thursday next week. Please let us know if you have any worries about your child viewing this film. Leavers Hoodies are now available to order from the PTA for £23 using a google form link emailed to you. Please make your order by 3rd June.

The café is open to come and meet other parents and to chat to our Home/School Link Worker, Tracey, every Monday from 8.40am, and on a Friday from 2.50pm until 3.10pm.
