Weekly Update 1020 November 2022 (by admin) |
Dear parents and carers,
We have reached the end of a busy week in the school with it being both Anti-Bullying Week and UK Parliament Week.
The focus of Anti-Bullying Week was on ‘reaching out’. Children learnt about the importance of asking for help if they are finding themselves the victim of bullying. The Anti-Bullying Ambassadors have done a marvellous job of raising awareness this week through assemblies and with the posters they made.
We had a visit from Dame Maria Miller on Friday morning for UK Parliament Week. School Council interviewed her and also led assemblies in their classrooms including a virtual tour of the Houses of Parliament.
We will continue to look at this in more detail next week focusing on Fundamental British Values. This is especially important as we have had queries over our Religious Education Curriculum by some parents. As a result, we have updated the website to share the syllabus which is taught in all schools in Hampshire as a locally agreed syllabus.

The National Curriculum is statutory and should be taught to all of the pupils in the school as a legal requirement. For that reason, parents cannot request for their child to be withdrawn/not participate in any of the lessons apart from Religious Education, Collective Worship and Relationship and Sex Education. Here is a link to view the contents of the National Curriculum:

All of the other subjects (music, physical education, personal, social and health education and dance) are compulsory in our school and pupils must fully participate. We cannot accept requests for pupils to not participate in any of the activities. Requests of this nature must come directly to myself as it has a legal implication on our duty as a school. I will be able to discuss alternative schooling options for your child including home educating where the National Curriculum is not compulsory. https://www.gov.uk/home-education
Top Tip for Parents
Primary Behaviour Support Service attended the coffee morning on Monday which was well received by parents. The service are incredibly helpful for both parents and school. They have provided a number of resources included the one attached with 66 things to say to your child to build their self-esteem.
